Analysis of Local Human Resources in Austin, Texas

Introduction

The human service profession is about meeting other people’s needs, helping individuals or groups, and being a supportive comrade for those seeking it. This is a broad term, which includes different variations of assistance for people in difficult life situations. It is essential to examine the duties and responsibilities that a human service worker should handle to become a true professional in this area. Additionally, it is vital to study the local area to understand the strong and weak sides of development in the human resource organization of Austin.

Austin is the capital of Texas, which is located where the Colorado River is crossed by the Balcones Escarpment. Concerning the population of Austin, this city is ethnically diverse (‘Austin | History, Population,’ 2021). It is less than a half of the European population, more than a third of the Hispanic population, and about ten percent of African Americans (‘Austin | History, Population,’ 2021). This city used to be a flourishing place for various trades and farming activities. However, the flood destroyed most residential and trade spaces, so the town had to have it repaired closer to the twentieth century. Nowadays, Austin is about development, manufacturing, technologies, and research; the education, care, and medicine sectors are actively developing.

As it was mentioned above, human service is a comprehensive definition. It can be essential to identify duties that the human service professional must take. For instance, the worker should assist individuals and families and help them to overcome their life problems. These problems might be various, for example, mental and psychological issues, emotional problems, conflicts, and financial obstacles. In addition to this, the human service professional should know how to counsel an emotionally or physically abused person. Moreover, the responsibilities of this professional include working with social groups and organizations in providing various types of support. Moving next, these professionals must provide educational, employment, and legal action help.

In addition, human service professionals should be tolerant of various races and cultures. It is significant because the employee of such organizations should know about particular aspects of different cultures to behave correctly. People can be offended by the incorrect behavior of another human; thus, this is a crucial factor for proper communication. Being culturally polite and correct is a pledge of professionalism at any job, especially when working with multiple cultures.

In addition, it is possible to become a real professional in the area of human services, by applying to the human service education program at the University of North Texas. Additively, Stephen F Austin State University offers a similar program for educating students. These educational programs help future human service professionals to examine administrative and legal areas of law, teach working with small and large multicultural communities, and prepare students for work with obstacles.

Austin Deaf Club

This is an organization that specialized in people with hearing problems. The clubhouse was established in 1946 and has been reconstructed several times. The organization offers special activities, food, drinks, and games (‘Austin Deaf Club,’ 2021). The club is located at 8818 Cullen Lane, Austin; the location is perfect for rest and relaxing activities. People of various ages can visit the club, and it guarantees good company for everyone. Membership is paid monthly and constitutes 50$ per month; senior membership costs 25$. A person should fill out the application on the website to join the membership. Currently, the club is closed because of pandemic limitations; however, meetings are held online.

Casa Marianella

Casa Marianella is an organization in Austin that specialized in immigrants. Its address is 821 Gunter Street, Austin, TX 78702; also, it is possible to call them or visit the website (Davis & Singh, 2020). The agency welcomes immigrants from other countries who stayed unprotected in an unknown place. It offers safe housing, shelters, and meal in the residential neighborhoods of Austin. Casa Marianella helps asylum victims, physically abused people, escaped women and children, and adult immigrants. Nowadays, people have become more concerned about support and help towards people in difficult situations. For example, Casa Marianella accepts donations and sends them to people in need. The organization’s services are free; Casa Marianella meets the needs of people of all ages, races, nationalities, and creeds.

Multicultural Engagement Center

Initially, this organization was founded to support Black and Latino students. Nowadays, this center supports people of racial minorities; anyone can join there for educational training, various games, and activities. Additively, the center offers support to students and provides them with support services such as housing and food. The center is located at 2201 Speedway, WCP 1.102 Stop A5600, Austin, TX, 78712 and currently acts online because of pandemic limitations. (‘Multicultural Engagement Center,’ 2021). Notably, all human service workers and teachers are people of different races and religions, highlighting the importance of cultural diversity in this center.

Conclusion

To sum everything up, Austin is adapted for people of different needs; agencies support senior people, physically challenged people, and immigrants. I learned that some of these organizations offer their human service attendance for free, and it is crucial for people in need. In addition, the examined organizations are located near living areas, so these agencies are available for most people. In my opinion, Austin is focused on multicultural societies properly; people’s needs are satisfied in shelters, food, and social activities. Multicultural and charity organizations should be developed further; this is our shared mission for a better future.
