Anti-Obesity Project’s Sponsors in the USA

The sponsors I am considering for my project are the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The HHS is an organization within the government of the U.S. that cares for the well-being of every American and offers the essential health services, particularly to those who are unable to access the services on their own. The NIH, a part of the HHS, is the United States’ medical research organization responsible for biomedical and health-related research aimed at improving health and saving the lives of Americans.

Because of the HHS and the NIH medical funded research projects, many Americans are currently living longer and healthier lives. Consequently, the life expectancy in the country has improved from forty-seven during the last decade to seventy-seven years today. The HHS budget includes more than three hundred different programs and covers a broad range of activities. Some of these are health and social science research, preventing disease, including immunization services, and comprehensive health services for Native Americans.

NIH, made up of twenty-seven Institutes and Centers and dedicating over eighty percent of its budget to funding medical research, is the largest source of funding for medical research in the world. Some of the research it has supported in the past includes Behavioral and Social Sciences Research in which its scientists have discovered how behavior and society can affect health and help in fighting diseases, and Colorectal Cancer Research. In 2009, major clinical breakthroughs it made include the discovery that weight loss depends on less calories, not nutrient mix, and that vitamin c may reduce gout risk.

The two agencies offer assistance to medical research activities that support the development of essential knowledge concerning the nature and behavior of living systems in order to meet their objectives of caring for the well-being of all Americans. In general, the agencies are looking for projects that are of high scientific caliber, investigator-initiated research projects, and research projects that are unique in nature. Besides supporting domestic and foreign institutions, the agencies also offer support to scientists at different stages in their careers.

My research project is based on the persistent problem of obesity in Clark County Vancouver Washington, and my focus will be, to investigate the mechanisms that could be employed regarding obese, and which diverge from the current situation so as to salvage more young people who are at risk of becoming obese.

Currently, parents are too busy to check the dietary lifestyle of their kids and this has led to health problem risk factors that relate to overweight conditions in kids. Therefore, since my research project is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and lowering the burdens of illness, I consider these funding sources to be a good match for my upcoming project.

In addition, I consider HHS and NIH to be the best match for my project since they support programs that investigate kids obesogenic behaviors and weight outcomes, implementation of good eating habits in schools, and effects of school nutrition and physical activity policies on the life of kids. Should you need any further elaboration concerning my choice, I will be more than willing to give you more information.
