When examining the map with the levels of religiosity, one can notice that geographers distinguish a separate region with high religiosity. This region is called the Bible belt and while it can be measured in many different ways, it tends to include most of the American South. In the last century, the region has been identified as where Protestant denominations, especially Southern Baptists, Methodists, and Evangelicals, are the predominant religious denominations. While spiritual practice in the Bible Belt is high, it is an area of many social problems. Education and college graduation rates in the Bible Belt are among the lowest in the United States. Cardiovascular and heart disease, obesity, homicide, teenage pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections are among the highest in the country.
The challenges of working with populations whose religious ideas conflict with their religious ideology are varied. First of all, this may relate to the provision of medical care. Many religious denominations on the territory of the Bible belt are skeptical about medicine, which is provided by the state in the modern world. Thus, many people refuse treatment for ideological reasons, which in some cases leads to irreversible consequences.
Other essential problems in working with the Bible belt population are education and crime. The relatively low education indicator in these regions is associated with the high role of religiosity in teaching. Thus, in some doctrines, certain biological and natural processes are denied, which leads to a low level of education, and therefore to problems in further work with the population. As a result of a misunderstanding of specific processes, people with a high level of religion in their lives may not realize the importance of non-existent legal and state laws. All this leads to a high crime rate among the population.
