Online security is an essential issue in the modern world since people spend more time and perform multiple actions in a digital sphere. This term implies that people’s data are protected from unauthorized access and use, which is called cybercrime (van Bavel et al., 2019). Thus, online security denotes that users can involve in numerous Internet activities without the threat that criminals will manage to access this information.
The issue under consideration leads to a few essential advantages. Firstly, improved security means that individuals feel more protected, which makes them satisfied. Secondly, if digital protection is ensured, people more actively rely on technology when it comes to personal communication, economic transactions, and others (van Bavel et al., 2019). As a result, individuals face a better quality of life because of this issue. However, promoting digital security also brings some disadvantages to people and nations. It is so because governments should spend more resources to establish online security, while users should make efforts to follow specific guidelines to protect their information.
It is challenging to overestimate the importance of online security. Since people discuss personal and professional affairs via messengers, send documents, shop online, and engage in other private activities, they should be provided with a secure environment. Internet users should know that their personal data are protected against unauthorized access. Consequently, it is necessary to reduce the volumes of cybercrime to ensure that people live and work in safe conditions.
Since I am a member of society, the issue under analysis has a direct impact on me. It teaches me that cybersecurity is a widespread problem, meaning that I should take specific measures to protect my information. Furthermore, the article by van Bavel et al. (2019) demonstrates that human behavior determines whether a user can be subject to a security issue. Thus, I draw sufficient attention to ensure that my personal details are protected.
