In the article Development of gender labeling: Effect of age of pictured children, Etaugh et al. consider the relationship between gender discrimination and age. The article is devoted to the study of gender perception among toddlers. The authors describe an experiment conducted with 52 people who were shown pairs of photographs of boys and girls. The subjects had to point to the required target (boy or girl). According to the study, children become able to discriminate between gender at about 29 months of age accurately. In addition, the age of the people depicted did not affect the respondents’ answers and their ability to distinguish between gender. Thus, the researchers proved that toddlers’ gender discrimination improved by age.

This means that even at the initial stages of life, it is possible to instill in people a respectful and open-minded attitude towards others.
