Emirates: Understanding Organization and the Role of Human Resources

Emirates is a large airline that aims to provide quality services for passenger and cargo movements. The main service is to transport passengers with airplanes’ help, providing the necessary conditions for this. Its subsidiary Emirates SkyCargo is engaged in freight transportation, and Emirates Executive deals with corporate and private charters. The company’s goal determines its potential audience – people who need to move from one city or country to another quickly. Thus, the airline’s audience is tourists, businessmen, government figures, and SkyCargo may be interested for various international companies.

The political factor affecting the company’s activities is the laws of states concerning aviation activities. They may be necessary to ensure the safety of both passengers and the airline. The economic factor determines the population’s ability to purchase tickets and use the services of the company. At the same time, oil prices determine the cost of the airline for transportation. The social factor determines preferences for the destination for generations, which often use airline’s services. Finally, technological and environmental factors affect the competitiveness of the company – the ability to offer the best technologies that do not harm the environment highlights airlines.

Emirates unites a large number of employees, which implies a multidivisional structure. In the company hierarchy, one can distinguish the president Sir Tim Clark, whose primary responsibility is to make decisions for the company’s growth. The commercial department performs planning and optimizing revenues and expenses; the Human Resources division deals with employees. The engineering service performs the function of monitoring, reporting, and evaluating aircraft. These are only a few divisions, and their operations and all of them are directed at providing high-quality service. Organizational culture is aimed at supporting equality and multiculturalism, cooperation, and integrity. It sets the policies guiding employees and contributes to the creation of a unique work environment.

The Human Resources (HR) department has an essential role in creating an enabling environment for work. To support the organization’s strategy, they facilitate the inclusion of people-related components in it. HR managers are also looking for talented employees for open vacancies. These specialists contribute to the worker’s involvement and commitment to the organization’s activity. Supporting managers and staff, HR mediates between them, establishing contacts and preventing potential problems. The department also advises managers on equal employment opportunities. It is the HR’s responsibility to coordinate the work of staff per their abilities helping managers.
