Historically black colleges and universities are a particular category of higher education institutions in the United States of America created for the education of the African-American population. This type of educational institution was associated with the abolition of slavery in order for black people to have the opportunity to receive higher education. The analyzed table A-55 provides information on current fund expenditures of public degree-granting historically Black colleges and universities in various years.
It can be seen that the amount of expenses for paying for state degrees every year, since 1976, has grown on from five hundred seventeen thousand to two million eight hundred thousand dollars. Moreover, based on the table, it can be noticed that some universities, such as Florida A&M University or North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, allocate more money for providing degrees than others, such as J.F. Drake State Technical College or University of the District of Columbia School of Law. The difference in expenses is about one hundred thousand dollars in 2000-2001.
Despite the fact that the total amount grew from year to year, some universities periodically reduced the annual cost of paying for degrees. For example, Coahoma Community College in Mississippi in the 1992-1993 reduced costs, compared to 2000-2001. A similar situation occurred at the Saint Thomas Campus on Virgin Islands only a year later. They reduced their expenses by an average of five thousand dollars, but later in 1995-1996 increased them again to about the same figures.
In conclusion, the table shows that the United States of America diligently supported the payment of scholarships to African-American students. Despite the fact that some educational institutions sometimes reduced the amount of income, they later returned to the previous indicators. There may be many reasons for the decline, but it is still clear that the state authorities were looking for the possibility of standard payment of scholarships.
