The 21st-Century Western Culture: A Retrospect of the Year 2500 A.D.

During the early 21st century, the emergence of technology and its subsequent dynamic development was a significant feature. The application of that specialized knowledge was in the various sectors of the world economies, especially in the field of science. This included a field of studies such as medicine, physics, engineering, computer science, and mostly the information and communication sector.

Consequently, a great impact on the social, economic, and political culture of the people during that era was realized. This was largely attributed to the emerging trends in lifestyle, economic conditions, and system of governance that differed widely from that of the generations that lived in the 20th century and before. However, there were merits as well as demerits associated with the use of technology during the late 20th century and the early 21st century on the growth and the development of man.

The general population of people that lived during that era experienced a much-improved standard of living and social well-being compared to those that lived before them. This was mainly due to the former’s appreciation, and use of technology that led to better ways of communication improved social networks, and use of more effective pieces of equipment and tools compared to those used by the latter previously. Nevertheless, the negative influence of technology used during the 21st century on the growth and development of especially children was rampant. This was mainly due to a lack of proper guidance on the responsible use of the technology.

In addition, sovereign nations of the world that were in existence during the 21st century had physical boundaries that separated them. However, such boundaries were of great hindrance to the social and economic interaction of the people that lived in the different states. This was as a result of the costly and bureaucratic process the people had to undertake, to cross the boundaries when they were moving from one state to another. It is not clear why such an administrative system of governance was largely preferred since it not only limited the social interaction between people from different communities. It also slowed their growth and development.

Conflicts between individual sovereign states were also significantly higher during that era. This was mainly because of the differences of political, economic, and religious nature that arose between the different people and nations. Therefore, intolerance was quite common especially between people and nations that had divergent views and perceptions towards the issues that emerged. As a consequence of these conflicts, individual nations budgeted and invested a considerable amount of their resources on their defensive forces at the expense of important priority development projects.

Some policymakers during that era seemed to lack a voice of reason, purpose, and wisdom in their decision-making. This was mainly about planning and development aimed towards the unity and the development of the entire population that lived during that period. This was due to the territorial tendencies and selfish interests that characterized most politicians and other stakeholders involved in policymaking.

In conclusion, it is important to note that this period witnessed the advent of information and communication technology (ICT) which preceded automated manufacturing during the 20th century. However, the period reported a high rate of cyber crimes and immorality with weak intervention measures.
