The Concepts of Modern Management, Standards & Expectations

An effective manager is someone who manages to ensure the efficiency of production and doesn’t waste time. The main managerial functions are to forecast and plan, organize, command, coordinate, and control. They are responsible for dividing the work, imposing a certain discipline, guaranteeing a united command, and, at the same time, the possibility of new initiatives. They have to pay attention to the hierarchy of the delegation of their power. Management is art and science at the same time. It is a science because of the strict duties mentioned above, and it is art because, in reality, there is no defined way to achieve success. It varies on the situation. In other words, a successful manager is also someone who takes the right decision at the right time without making a plan. The main problem of today’s managers is that they treat their position more as a science than as an art. They should be more flexible, should be able to communicate in order to define people’s needs, and should work in a team. Similar to the situation of the leadership, the manager also faces problems with external – customers, media, politics, internal groups within an organization, and other problems. The performance of a manager should include discipline & capability, help, objectives, career decisions, and opportunities identification. A manager should be equipped with other skills like the ability to teach and give advice and information. They have to take the function of a coach and help in facilitating things. These are considered soft skills and help the manager to deal better with the workforce guaranteeing a better performance from their side. A manager is “born” and “made” at the same time. It is impossible to decide on a certain statement that leads to being a manager.
