The Los Angeles Medical Center is one of the Kaiser Foundation hospitals operating in Los Angeles. The institution offers a wide range of healthcare services to the community. The Los Angeles medical center offers both general medical care as well as surgical services. The American health industry encourages linkages and alliances among healthcare facilities to enhance the effectiveness of the industry and improve the general health of the American community. The Los Angeles medical center operates in conjunction with other institutions within the Kaiser Permanente Foundation. The institution offers both inpatient and outpatient services to the public. The Los Angeles Medical Center has many registered nurses and other practitioners because other than offering service delivery; the institution also trains medical practitioners. The institution has a bed capacity of 464 covering both general medical and surgical cases. The institution grew tremendously over the last few years in numbers and revenue. The institution serves an estimate of twenty-five thousand people annually in both inpatient and outpatient services. The Los Angeles medical center emergency room is one of the most visited facilities in Los Angeles because of its exemplary service delivery system (Oleske, 2009).
The Los Angeles Medical Center is a subsidiary of the Kaiser Permanente Foundation. The foundation houses three major healthcare service delivery groups that together help facilitate service delivery in nine different cities. Each of these facilities operates individually, but they link with one another to enhance service delivery. For this reason, the Los Angeles Medical Center can give or receive referrals from other health facilities affiliated with Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser Foundation Hospital is a not for profit organization, and so are the facilities within the group. The Los Angeles Medical Center offers its patients medical covers through the Kaiser Foundation health plans (Lazakidou & Daskalaki, 2012). The institution serves both insured and uninsured members, but the insurance policy helps raise the number of patients that the entire Kaiser Permanente serves. The Los Angeles Medical Center receives its funding from the Kaiser Foundation health plan organization.
The Los Angeles Medical Center has twenty-three tertiary care services and around forty centers of excellence. The wide range of services makes the institution one of the largest healthcare facilities in Los Angeles. For this reason, the Los Angeles Medical Center receives many referrals from other institutions, mostly those affiliated with Kaiser Permanente. The bed capacity of the institution does not allow the medical center to house all the patients. For this reason, the institution transfers some of its patients to other Kaiser affiliated health centers for further health care services. Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center refers its patients to the Los Angeles Medical Center for CT scans and heart related treatments. The facility has one of the best machines for heart disease treatments (Guenther & Vittori, 2013). Other institutions that refer their patients to the Los Angeles Medical Center include Downey medical center, panorama city medical center, West Los Angeles medical center and woodland hills medical center. All these institutions can refer and receive patients from one another for better service delivery within the Permanente health care group.
