Although the main issues in the scope trial were Education and Science v. Religion, the proceedings had a substantial impact in defining the roles of the judicial system and individual’s trust in the administration of justice. Politics, religion, and other social civilities have conflicted for centuries. However, the judiciary plays a substantial role in maintaining law and order in cases where society differs. Despite the court’s ruling against an evolutionist notion that is subjective, they proved that they were ready to tackle any issues that would lead to discord in society.
The Scope Trial revealed a characteristic nature of Americans and other people worldwide, i.e., substantial resistance to change and a fear of the unknown. The main reason why scholars, politicians, and religious leaders alike were fast at dismissing the theory of evolution was their staunch beliefs in Christian set values and the biblical origin of man. Up to date, individuals are usually hesitant in adapting to new ideas, policies, technology, and changes. However, this characteristic of human beings is detrimental because individuals can only grow and develop by embracing change.
