Introduction
Treatment after transplantation requires special attention and careful monitoring of the patient. This article discusses a special case of acute rejection after kidney transplantation in a patient. The symptoms observed in the patient allow us to assume the cause of this result, namely, immunosuppression. This case study demonstrates how genetic factors, autoimmune diseases, and improper use of immunosuppressive drugs can all contribute to the rejection of a transplant, and further research is required to confirm the exact cause.
Case Summary
A cadaveric kidney transplant was done on this patient since they were in the latter stages of renal failure. The patient was in good health following the procedure. Still, six months later, he started gaining weight, his urination reduced, he became fatigued, and his temperature increased to 101°F. The patient likely experienced acute kidney transplant rejection based on the symptoms that were reported.
Case Analysis
The patient’s DNA, for instance, may contain alleles or antigens that trigger the production of antibodies against the introduced allografts or tissues. Additionally, in this instance, it’s possible that the genes of the immune system that contribute to the emergence of autoimmune illnesses were affected. For instance, the HLA-DR3 gene is associated with poor immunogenesis and has been linked to acute transplant rejection.
Immunosuppression has also been associated with acute transplant rejection. It is a process by which the body’s immune system is suppressed. As a result of immunosuppression, the body’s ability to produce antibodies and fight diseases, pathogens, and other foreign objects is impaired (Li et al., 2020). Immunosuppression can destroy the body’s systems, which can be very dangerous to a person’s health. The cause of the patient’s acute rejection of the kidney transplant could have been immunosuppression caused by the improper use of immunosuppressive drugs.
Conclusion
A patient who received a cadaveric kidney transplant due to advanced renal failure was initially healthy after the procedure. However, six months later, he showed clear signs of acute transplant rejection, evidenced by symptoms like weight gain, decreased urine output, severe fatigue, and a fever of 101°F. The root cause of this sudden rejection is likely related to immunosuppression resulting from incorrect use of immunosuppressive drugs. Further testing is necessary to confirm the exact reason for the kidney transplant failure.
