Why Is APA Style Used to Document Ideas in Writing?
The importance of the APA referencing and formatting guide is rather self-explanatory. The APA framework provides a set of rules that allow for a homogenous format to be applied to all studies. Therefore, the process of navigating a particular article or any other resource becomes considerably easier.
Also, the APA guide allows referencing one’s ideas and works properly. Without the application of the APA referencing standards, one will end up plagiarizing someone else’s work. Put differently, an in-text citation allows supporting one’s argument by quoting or citing a previous study. Moreover, the adoption of a particular citation style helps avoid plagiarism and, thus, retain academic integrity. Finally, a citation typically plays the role of a piece of evidence that supports the main argument.

The following excerpt can be considered a prime example of the material that has been quoted correctly: “EI helps us to recognize our emotional state as well as that of others, thus allowing us to effectively use this knowledge to regulate our feelings, behavior, and actions” (Koubova & Buchko, 2013, p. 703). The quote supports the argument about using EI as a tool for enhancing the quality of healthcare.
