Crafting a Unique Art Thesis: Tips and Key Features

The student who starts writing an art thesis may at first think that it is a regular task and does not differ from any other thesis writing. This supposition may be partly right since theses in art contain the same structural elements that any other thesis does. Nonetheless, there are some peculiarities for a thesis in every discipline. The writers may utilize those peculiarities to make their thesis in art more valuable, remembered, and informative. The present article aims to explain the main features of art theses and include some tips for making an art thesis better.

Tip One

The initial point to consider when writing an art thesis is to identify the field of interest topical for modernity. It may concern old works of art or the modern pieces of art that have just been produced; in any way, the topic has to be interesting and valuable. Some useful tips for choosing topics for art theses are: to explore the commonalities and differences between artistic trends and periods, to identify the critical relationships between the art and the social, political, and economic background of the artists’ environments (with a forecasting assumption about the modern time and near future).

Tip Two

Obviously, the comprehensive inquiries into a particular artistic movement, the works of a specific artist, or the historical or evolutionary account of art development remain topical at all times. However, the modern scientific development period is characterized by blending and uniting different approaches to adopt a cross-disciplinary perspective. Hence, art theses will become a much more valuable piece of research if it contains the psychological or psychoanalytical approach to art analysis, the application of technological achievements in the investigation, etc.

Tip Three

Finally, the helpful piece of advice that may be given to all writers is to perceive their theses as art initially, before, during, and after the process of writing. Science is also an art. The way one constructs his or her thesis, uses argumentation, justifies the choice of subject, etc. will affect the readers’ understanding of the topic and findings and, therefore, affect the dissemination of results. Every art thesis aims at producing some scientific value, and in case this value is understood and shared with the society, the thesis may be considered successful.
