For this research, I chose the article about the “Benefits of Extracurricular Activities for Kids” from WebMD. The study is reliable because it highlights the value of physical activities for children and why they should be encouraged. For children, consistent physical activities can improve their physical and mental health. Every person can experience the advantages of physical activities despite their size, shape, ethnicity, or age.
In the case of children, as they grow, they become interested in numerous activities within the school setup. These extracurricular activities have different significance to the health of an individual. Furthermore, they help in the growth and development of a child. Communities and schools offer several chances for students to participate in interesting groups and sports. These are essential because they help in exercising the brain and can further nurture an individual’s talent.
Physical activities motivate children to exercise when in school or when participating in community activities. According to Brennan, every activity is physical in nature, but most are. Some of these physical activities include dance, team sports, martial arts, and clubs that primarily involve exploring the outdoors (para. 3). These are some of the activities that children find interesting, and most of them participate in. In the process, a child exercises without feeling that it is a chore. As a result, this helps them develop to be physically fit. Additionally, exercises are known to strengthen the bones of children. The importance of this is that it assists in the physical growth of a child.
Physical activities play a role in enhancing social development in children. Sporting events bring together several children from different backgrounds, and they usually have various talents. By interacting with each other, children develop their social skills, which will help them in the future. The article proposes that those children who participate in extracurricular activities had a higher level of peer belonging compared to those who rarely participated in sports or clubbing activities (Brennan). The importance of socializing is that children are provided with various life skills that they will use later in life. In addition to life skills, physical activities improve the survival chances of children (Brennan). They improve a child’s immune system, thereby making them healthier and strong. Furthermore, an individual does not need to perform vigorous activities to improve their chances of living longer. An individual can benefit from low-intensity activities which they can indulge in every day.
As an individual age, it is significant that they protect their muscles, joints, and bones since they support the body and assist in the movement of a person. Keeping muscles, joints, and bones healthy can help make sure that people are able to perform their daily duties and be physically active. When children take part in bone-and-muscle strengthening activities at a moderate level, they can reduce the rate at which they lose their bone density. In terms of health, those individuals who engage in simple exercises generally reduce the chances of suffering from fractures. In addition, physical activities reduce the probability of falling and resulting injuries from such falls. Additionally, schools provide grounds where children can engage in different activities. These are important because it helps them develop their cognitive abilities. Children who participate in physical activities have better social skills. They interact with different people from different environments, and this is helpful in nurturing their capabilities.
