Colony Nursery and Landscaping Company: Enterprise Resource Planning System Implementation

Colony Nursery and Landscaping Company needs to implement an ERP system since it has been unable to share information between existing systems. The target objective is to increase purchasing metrics within the company. Information silo means a management system that cannot communicate freely with other systems set for communication within business firms. For instance, Colony Nursery and Landscaping has made it difficult for the system to communicate to the award system for customer satisfaction (De Gregorio & Ranchordas, 2019). Colony Nursery and Landscaping has realized the information silo because perhaps the management does not believe there is sufficient benefit of sharing information.

Information silo is becoming a challenge for many companies because it results in duplication of effort and redundancy of job tasks. Another issue is that silos lead to contrasting communication model systems that can make the company incur costs hence lacking the required business synergy (Candra, 2018). When information is unable to reach all the systems, the outcome is inefficiency because different departments of Colony Nursery and Landscaping will be dealing with a series of alternate reflections of completion of projects within the firm. Additionally, information silos lead to the missing of opportunities for firms such as Colony Nursery and Landscaping, where the company’s failure can be realized gradually.

Organizations are moving to the cloud because of the need to operate their business smoothly. The emergence of microservices architecture has boosted the entire process because functions no longer require monolithic splitting but single and independent configurations. In this case, Colony Nursery and Landscaping will need to have a parallel system that can link information between the existing systemic framework (De Gregorio & Ranchordas, 2019). With cloud systems, storage is based on NoSQL databases that hold data for various functions without interfering with the existing commands. Therefore, organizations need to have cloud software to boost the operational framework for the company’s goals and objectives.

Cloud services such as cloud host for data storage can be very useful by Colony Nursery and Landscaping because it integrates applications and enables sharing of data hence expanding the business efficiency. For this case, an ERP system will configure the award system by allowing applications to interact freely when running in business software (De Gregorio & Ranchordas, 2019). Colony Nursery and Landscaping will effectively string the systems, reducing silos in the existing software.

The award system and the ERP capability that Colony Nursery and Landscaping wish to have will bring the company to a better competitive advantage. The ERP system can integrate all data for Colony Nursery by having independent splitting of functions to a better reading and writing capability of the program’s set (Candra, 2018). Therefore, it is easier for the company to improve the general performance and decision-making. The award system will add business value that helps attain a competitive advantage.

Colony Nursery and Landscaping require reengineering business processes because ERP software may not fully integrate into the existing workflows. When the firm carries out the business reengineering process, it will cut extra costs, meaning comprehensive training is required to be in place. During the process, the customer award system will be affected since the new cloud software will configure new pathways and APIs for the successful interlinking of the Colony Nursery systems (Candra, 2018). Implementing ERP is a major problem is that it requires deploying the software cumulatively, so the award system must be suspended for effective system repositioning.
