Introduction
The American constitutional framework of human rights and liberties was formed based on the doctrine of natural law. It proceeds from the principle that a person has rights endowed by the very fact of his existence. In other words, recognizing a person’s natural and inalienable rights is the most important postulate of constitutional doctrine. Therefore, it is important to note that the Constitution directly impacts my life; because of it, I can be sure that my rights and opportunities are preserved.
Women’s Rights in the US
Today, a woman has the right to vote, freedom of speech, education, choice of religion, and orientation. It took decades of struggle by suffragettes and all democratic forces before Congress decided in June 1919 to grant women the right to vote (Moehling et al. 6). However, absolute equality is still far away. In this matter, Conservatism takes the form of concrete and tangible discrimination based on the inertia of social thinking.
As a teenage woman, I have to live according to the orientation that I identify myself with, walk in any clothes, and dye my hair any color; this freedom of expression is vital in our times. Moreover, I can get any job in the future, including a job that is stereotypically considered male. These are the basic points of equality between a man and a woman.
However, social inequality still exists in the United States. Social inequality lies at the very heart of the bourgeois system. It has various manifestations (discrimination based on race, ethnicity, and gender) and is psychologically reinforced by them (Vile 12). Thus, the struggle for women’s constitutional rights is also a struggle for their emancipation in everyday life, in all areas of the economy, and it continues even now.
Women still face objectification and sexism towards them, which I think is unacceptable. Even though a lot has changed in the 21st century, it would be an overstatement to speak about the time of true gender equality. Sexual objectification is the process of reducing the role of women to the role of an object artificially endowed with several characteristics that meet the interests of men.
Proponents of the theory of objectification speak of two ways of it. The first method, direct and explicit, implies cases of sexual objectification when women often appear not fully dressed and serve as a kind of attractive background for the advertised product. I believe that it is necessary to prohibit the objectification of women in marketing at the legislative level. Women serve as a background, a beautiful shape or shell on which something is put. As a result, a woman does not appear as a subject to whom something belongs; on the contrary, there is a persistent feeling of objectification of a woman.
Conclusion
Thus, the post-war history of the United States is the best evidence that the US Constitution preserves meaningful legal opportunities to protect the interests of broad sections of American society. The democratic understanding of human rights and freedoms is most consistent with the historical spirit of the US Constitution. Today, women are endowed with fundamental rights and freedoms equal to men. However, there are still problems of objectification of women that need to be dealt with.
