COVID-19 Influence on the Entertainment Industry

No industry has experienced a complete shutdown like the entertainment industry during the pandemic. Theaters, cinemas, musical events were banned entirely due to the imposed restrictions on social distance, along with all possible public events. Since the industry lost the opportunity to offer the consumer, many organizers tried to transfer them to an online format. As a fan of spending my free time in such establishments, I acutely felt the lack of cultural life, which the pandemic completely stopped.

If the leading supply chains in products lost the most important sales channels, then at the same time, they had the opportunity to sell through the remaining available ones, where revenue increased several times. In the entertainment industry, from artists musicians to service personnel, everyone was left without the opportunity to earn money from their professional activities. The only possible way out in this situation for representatives of this area was state support, which was carried out to varying degrees in several countries.

The organizers can focus on local artists, holding local fairs and festivals to reduce dependence on the logistics of foreign or out-of-town guests on tour. At a lower cost, the entertainment industry could unlock the potential of a region often hidden behind big names on event posters. Due to the high demand for such live events, people would gladly hold on to the opportunity to visit their favorite places for a small price.

Difficulties in air transportation were indeed caused by restrictions: the closure of borders downtime of airlines and airports, which caused a natural increase in ticket prices. With demand for these air travel services returning commensurate with the lifting of restrictions, ticket prices are unlikely to fall anymore as companies need to bounce back and continue to sustain growth and development. Retail stores have also been hit by the supply chain and the imposed restrictions. However, in their situation, in my opinion, the main task is to respond to unstable demand, which requires decision-making under conditions of uncertainty. Finally, schools have received the most problematic influence for several reasons. First, vaccination for children is not yet available and has not been tested. Secondly, in hybrid and distance learning, its quality suffers, because of which students cannot receive the basic fundamental knowledge necessary for future life. Finally, the constant chaos and disunity in the organization lead to stressful situations for teachers, on whom the workload is already high.
