I think Dante’s inferno is very popular because it talks about one of the most controversial topics in the common world. Its popularity can be attributed to the description of hypothetical experiences, imaginations and the description of hell. Most of us fear discussing weird stories, such as imaginative experiences or dreams of hell or heaven. However, these ideas and theories exist in our minds and affect our daily life.
What I found interesting in Dante’s Inferno is that he cannot climb the mountain due to his unworthiness. The experience is fascinating as his mountain climbing is blocked by the ferocious panther, the lion, and the she-wolf. This climbing experience poses some interesting perspectives of how Dante is only acceptable in hell but rejected in heaven. Additionally, the cultural mixing in the piece is fascinating to watch through. It helps to understand Dante’s feelings about the relations between Romans and Greeks.
I agree with Army that Dante’s inferno can be popular due to its idea about the stages of hell. Moreover, the popularity is intrigued by the concept of weirdness. I agree with Army’s fascinating scene of the piece that describes Dante’s experiences of winds in hell as they describe his imagination.
