Introduction
Numerous actions are being taken to address climate change, which has recently attracted significant worldwide attention. Using electric vehicles (EVs) is one way to reduce carbon emissions. With a 4.4% growth rate in 2021 alone, the adoption of EVs in the United States has increased significantly (Colato & Ice, 2023). Our research group has thus decided to examine the EV population in the USA.
Background
The necessity to investigate sustainable energy options and the escalating environmental concerns were our primary factors in selecting this topic. Additionally, we were motivated by the rapid expansion of EVs in the USA, which has raised the need for additional information concerning EV distribution and usage. We believe that studying the number of EVs in the USA will provide essential insights into adopting sustainable energy and the role different companies have played in this shift.
Our data collection, including all registered EVs in the USA, was obtained from Data.gov, an official US government website. Data points from various manufacturers, models, years, plug-in types, electric ranges, and registration states were included in the data collection (Department of Licensing, 2023). The program Tableau was used for our data analysis.
Context and Relevance
A considerable shift toward renewable and sustainable energy sources has occurred due to increased awareness and concern about climate change. Consumers who wish to reduce their carbon footprint and help the environment are increasingly choosing electric automobiles. Sales of EVs have significantly increased in the USA, which has encouraged the development of EV charging infrastructure and drawn additional participants to the market. Understanding the trends, patterns, and factors that influence EV adoption is more important as the EV market develops and matures.
We gained critical insights into the manufacturers that have considerably affected the introduction of sustainable energy through our research on the EV population in the USA. The data collection we are utilizing provides details on the producer, model, year, electric range, and state of registration for all EVs currently registered nationwide. We can determine which companies have the greatest influence on the transition to sustainable energy by analyzing this data. Policymakers may use this data to encourage EV adoption, and manufacturers can use it to focus their efforts on creating more environmentally friendly vehicles.
Our study identified which states have the largest EV populations. For policymakers to focus on areas that require more attention, such as expanding the number of charging stations, increasing incentives, and enhancing EV education, it may be helpful to understand the geographical distribution of EVs. The electric range of EVs has been discussed in detail since it is one of the most important variables affecting their use and convenience. By comparing the electric ranges of various EV models, we can determine which EVs offer the best range and which need improvement to meet consumer demands.
Conclusion
An essential first step in developing sustainable energy solutions and reducing the impacts of climate change is examining the EV population in the USA. We used Tableau for our studies because our data collection contains essential variables. Our research should shed light on the companies that have significantly influenced the adoption of sustainable energy sources, the most widely used models, and the states with the largest EV populations. Ultimately, our research intends to support international efforts to lower carbon emissions and promote renewable energy sources.
