Introduction

The pursuit of excellence in the quality of services offered to residents as a student on a Food and Nutrition Management placement is a crucial goal. To keep residents interested at mealtimes, the team also introduced “Fun Friday Placemats,” which included trivia questions and riddles. The team surveyed the residents to learn more about their musical tastes and then played the right music throughout the dining areas.

Other action steps will include creating a staff team to facilitate communication for residents with language barriers, encouraging family involvement, analyzing data in Welbi to ensure the team is not focusing on one domain, working with new recreation staff to improve creativity in programs, utilizing cloud-based software for new program ideas, conducting post-program satisfaction surveys in each domain throughout the year, and engaging staff in themed events to increase resident enjoyment. The team will also explore the feasibility of adding music in the dining rooms and survey residents to see what they like to listen to.

Quality Improvement

This quality improvement plan aims to improve people’s overall quality of life by increasing the range and diversity of recreational opportunities available to them. The residents’ response to the question, “There is a range of programs that are diverse and fit my requirements,” which will be evaluated using pre- and post-implementation surveys, is one of the particular outcome measures that will be used to assess the performance of this plan (Duffy & Furterer, 2020). By December 2023, the team wants to see a 2% increase in this question from a baseline of 84% to 86%.

Future actions could include carrying out resident surveys to identify new program ideas and preferences, involving residents and their families in program planning, and utilizing technology to improve communication and program offerings to maintain the improvements made in this quality improvement plan (Duffy & Furterer, 2020). The team can also partner with local organizations to offer locals more resources and cultural programming.

Another potential next step is investigating prospects for cooperation with neighborhood businesses and community organizations to create fresh and varied programming options. The group may, for instance, collaborate with regional cultural institutions to provide citizens with more comprehensive cultural experiences or with neighborhood eateries to host cooking classes and tastings. The group could also consider increasing the use of technology to improve the recreation programs, such as by giving residents tablets or other devices to access online programming and activities, or by delivering virtual tours of museums and other cultural landmarks.

Overall, many potential future steps can be taken to build on the successes of this quality improvement plan and further enhance the recreation programs for residents. By continuing to gather feedback, explore new partnerships and technology options, and invest in staff development, the team can continue to create a vibrant and engaging recreation program that meets residents’ needs and preferences.
