The movie Schindler’s list is a biographical picture disclosing the story of the businessman from Germany, Oskar Schindler, and his decisive role in the lives of thousand Polish Jews who managed to survive during the Holocaust. He managed to employ the great part of the nation at his factories and gave them a chance to avoid one of the most tragic periods in world history. It is important to underline the fact that the film draws a line between the notions of life and death; the notes of slavery and Nazis Party influence are the shadows of the period. The movie is considered to be significant due to the real representation of Holocaust times and attempts of the Nazi destruction of the whole nation. The film contains the Genocide horror being combined with the problems of violence and racism. Spielberg managed to reflect successfully the ways of Jews to the liberty and mass deliverance from religious and stereotyping hatred.

The movie Sometimes in April depicts the period of Rwandan Genocide being the mass killing of Hutu politicians and Tutsis because of the principles established under Hutu ideology. The filmmaker Raoul Peck strived to depict the cruelty of genocide violence rooted in the Hutu-Tutsi divide through ethical contradictions. The movie disclosed political interference and governmental mistakes leading to the number of deaths. The theme of genocide is preserved through the brutal atmosphere and living conditions of the population who tried to find justice and reach liberation from political tricks taking away thousands of lives.

Each of the films analyzed highlighted the theme of genocidal activities conducted by politicians and the Nazis party and resulting in mass deaths and national destructions. Schindler’s List and Sometimes in April managed to reflect the brutality of the epoch and the realism of the horror suffered by the population. It should be noted that the movie Schindler’s List appeared to gain real success as the epic bestseller of modernity; it won seven Academy Awards and was recognized as one of the 100 best movies of the USA. This fact can be explained by Spielberg’s professional depiction of the Holocaust events through the realism of shooting and the successfully selected cast of the film. Sometimes in April strived to show the national tragedy through mass murders but it appeared to be not so emotional and expressive as the movie by Spielberg.

The analysis of the movies showed that American cinematography is rich in historical and epic works reminding modern generations about the tragedies of our ancestry. Such films as Schindler’s List and Sometimes in April showed the brutality of the epoch described and people’s urge towards liberation. The movies can be considered the prints of history allowing us to evaluate the cruelty of genocidal activities conducted by the Nazis Party and governmental representatives and leading to the thousand deaths of the people. Schindler’s List and Sometimes in April are real treasures of US cinematography.
