In this article, Parrish (2015) tries to clarify the reasons and factors that caused his hatred towards African-Americans. According to the discussions of the author, it is the impulse that is given by social prejudices and beliefs. For example, it is mentioned that the author’s parents were also against African-Americans even though they tried to be polite with them. Before the decision is made to hit or otherwise damage them, it seems that the fear that they would take everything whites have drives the actions. The perceptions of African-American violence and ignorance are so deeply rooted in society that the ideas about racism are quite difficult to discuss for some whites. Another cause of hatred is the perceived superiority of the white population over the African-American one. Parrish (2015) states that being a part of society, he is constantly under the impact of the environment and people around. In other words, it is especially difficult to stop being a racist, when all white classmates fight with Black students, even though the author’s best friend was an African-American. Distrust, fear, and superiority are the key feelings that show how hate takes hold over people. The author notes that some positive changes were achieved as policies were accepted, and Obama was chosen as a president. Nevertheless, the problem of racial segregation remains acute and requires significant efforts to eradicate it.
