Introduction
In many cases, prior to or right after hiring an employee, the company has to train them so that the new staff member gains the needed competencies, meets the requirements, and can complete the tasks effectively. Therefore, worker education approaches can be divided into on-the-job and off-the-job training. Job rotation is one of the key methods in the former group, and it has both advantages and disadvantages.
Job Rotation
To begin with, job rotation refers to moving the new hire between various positions within the company to let them gain additional skills and knowledge and better understand their colleagues. According to Basariya and Sree (2019), this method allows the trainee to understand other employees’ responsibilities and issues and start their collaborative efforts and mutual trust. Therefore, instead of being mentored or having online lectures, a new worker can receive valuable experiences by trying various roles and getting acquainted with the firm’s culture.
This on-the-job training method has several important strengths and weaknesses. Thus, for a trainee, it is an excellent opportunity to meet their colleagues, try different roles, and demonstrate their quick learning abilities (Basariya & Sree, 2019). For the company’s employees, job rotation is a way to become more productive and motivated by switching duties (Vasanthi & Basariya, 2019). However, it should be noted that this method requires organizations to spend much time and financial resources (Atlantika & Dewi, 2021). Additionally, this process can have potential difficulties and increase workplace errors made by employees who have just entered a new role.
Conclusion
To conclude, job rotation is one of the most applicable on-the-job training methods. Although it can be costly and time-consuming, it is an excellent way for the company to develop talents and increase worker motivation. However, even though many advantages exist, it is still essential for firms to consider potential weaknesses or side effects of this method and apply it mindfully.
