Job Satisfaction and Organizational Performance in Nigeria’s Banking Industry

Background

The origin of this project was based on evidence gathered from personal experiences and from prior research conducted on the topic. This evidence suggests that the Nigerian banking industry has experienced a high number of resignations over the past three years.

Objectives

The primary objective of this project is to investigate the impact of job satisfaction on organizational performance in Nigeria’s banking industry. To achieve this, the proposed project will investigate the relationship between these two factors, as well as the impact of employee remuneration on organizational performance. In addition, the proposed project aims to develop and suggest several practices that can enhance job satisfaction.

Participants

The participants in the project will be members of Providusbank’s Institutional Banking Group sales team, a new commercial bank in Nigeria. These employees currently work in a newly formed sales team, but they have gained sufficient working experience in the Nigerian banking industry, having previously worked in other banks. Therefore, they will be able to provide sufficient information on the project topic by comparing their previous and current workplaces.

Project Work Plan

This project will involve gathering data from the employees of a new commercial bank in Nigeria. The study will employ a multi-method approach, incorporating questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. This will enable participants to reflect on their experiences and provide more detailed answers. In addition, the project plan will include a literature review, which will provide a deeper understanding of the existing research. The body of literature will also be used to develop the questions that will be further used in the questionnaires and interviews.

Activities and Tasks

Other activities and tasks involved in the project will include providing all participants and stakeholders with confidentiality papers to sign before the interviews begin, ensuring that participants feel free to discuss important aspects of their previous and current jobs. Additionally, participants will be informed that the interviews will be completely anonymous and that their names, identities, or any other personal data will not be disclosed.

Significance of the Project Idea

The significance of this project idea lies in its ability to identify a connection between job satisfaction and organizational performance in the Nigerian banking sector. The location of the site used in the project is crucial, as there has been a lack of research on this specific area (Akdere & Egan, 2020). At the same time, the fact that the banking industry in Nigeria has been associated with a high number of resignations in recent years indicates that it is essential to address this issue and that employees must be involved.

Anticipated Results

It’s anticipated that the study’s results will demonstrate the relationship between employee job satisfaction and a bank’s performance in Nigeria. It is also expected that the research will identify the specific factors that affect employees’ decisions to resign, continue working at the same place, and either increase or decrease their efforts. Additionally, the findings are expected to assess the effects of job dissatisfaction. Ultimately, the results are expected to inform the development of targeted policies and practices that employers can implement to enhance employees’ job satisfaction.
