Introduction: Kouzes and Posner Model for Investigation of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Rate
- Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a term used to describe a bacterial infection of the urinary tract;
- In a hospital, UTIs most often occur when using urinary catheters (catheter-associated UTIs or CAUTI);
- CAUTIs remain the most common type of healthcare-associated infection;
- They account for 34% of all health-care associated infections (Hu et al, 2018).
Letica-Kriegel et al. (2019). Identifying the risk factors for catheter-associated urinary tract infections: A large cross-sectional study of six hospitals
- The study shows that the issue of CAUTI risk factors, especially in regards to catheter-dwelling, is underinvestigated;
- The objective is to investigate how CAUTI risks change over time.
Kouzes and Posner Model: Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership
- Kouzes and Posner proposed their leadership model in 1987;
- They described five specific practices to develop strong leadership:
- Model the way;
- Inspire a shared vision;
- Challenge the process;
- Enable others to act;
- Encourage the heart.

- The study offers insight on the impact of nursing leadership styles on ICU practice;
- An integrative review of scientific evidence is composed.
Conclusion
- UTIs are a serious issue for medical facilities, and it is yet to be resolved;
- Kouzes and Posner transformative leadership model is key to addressing the problem of UTIs in nursing setting;
- Various sources provide evidence on the risk factors of UTIs and the role of leadership in nursing practice.
