Leader Power, Ethics, and Social Responsibility in Organizational and Societal Contexts

Introduction

Leadership is a crucial factor that can help a society unite around a common goal and aspirations, ultimately achieving a higher level of development. At the same time, the power that the leader has must be used by them cly and responsibly, since otherwise, an excess of authority may occur, resulting in violations of freedom. To avoid and prevent such situations, it is necessary to turn to ethics and explore how this concept can help regulate social relations between people.

Responsibilities

The duties of an effective leader outlined in the diary can be correlated with the personal responsibilities of each citizen. First of all, the ratio is reflected in the protection that employees must receive from their leader. In society, this function is also carried out by state law enforcement agencies. However, each person must make an effort to comply with public safety rules to maintain the norms of law and ethics.

Action and conflict management are essential aspects of leadership that apply to both small organizations and entire societies. To achieve this, it is necessary to properly balance interests so that each person can feel at ease (Haslam et al., 2011). Balance is needed in organizations as well as in society. So it is my duty in the larger community to find compromises with other members to achieve equality.

Ethical decision-making is another responsibility of a leader. However, for me, as a member of a large community, this is an equally important aspect that must be observed. By relying on ethics in decision-making, I will be able to achieve better results and avoid harming others in society. Support and cooperation are also needed in a large community, as they can create a friendlier atmosphere and prevent conflict situations (Grigoropoulos, 2019). The peaceful resolution of disputes is a method that is ethically justified in both organizations and societies, making it a universal approach.

Power

Leaders must use the power they wield within the organization for the benefit of the broader society. First of all, this is important for increasing social responsibility in tense moments. For example, during the coronavirus pandemic, many companies contributed to the community by distributing masks or sponsoring the purchase of medical equipment for clinics.

In this way, the leaders of organizations did well by using their power to bring about improvements (Haslam et al., 2011). In addition, leaders can utilize power for the greater good when they need to achieve long-term sustainability. This can be done by improving the environment and taking care of nature. In this way, the organization can gain public trust and support.

At the same time, the use of power for the public good can cause some ethical dilemmas, such as conflicts of interest between stakeholders and the allocation of resources. In the first case, the leader of the organization must consider that they have obligations to both employees and shareholders of the company (Shaw et al., 2020). Thus, the promotion of the public good should not interfere with their interests and goals. Allocation of company resources to external concerns can also divert them from essential functions within the organization. This means that all ethical implications must be adequately and comprehensively assessed.

Conclusion

Power and social responsibility are essential concepts for leadership that can overlap. The leader must behave in a manner that does not violate the ethical principles and interests of subordinates and stakeholders. In this way, it will be possible to establish long-term sustainability, which could help the organization continue to develop. At the same time, it is also necessary to evaluate all ethical dilemmas so that good intentions do not lead to a negative result for any of the parties.
