The previously conducted study revealed my capability to cope with situations when it is needed to provide assistance for people with drug addiction. More specifically, it showed that some aspects of the matter were easier to address, whereas others remain a significant challenge on the way to making improvements in clients’ lives. Therefore, it is critical to understand the opportunities for growth as a specialist while also paying attention to my confidence level, determining the effectiveness of adopted interventions.
Strengths
The main strengths reflected by the performance of the assignment are related to my ability to understand what models are applicable to each individual situation. Thus, for instance, the selection of group therapy for the affected persons was a beneficial solution since all of the patients’ struggles were somehow connected to socialization. Also, I managed to successfully determine that their implementation should follow the proper evaluation of obstacles that might lead to their unwillingness to participate, such as a social phobia. The effectiveness of the chosen treatment was complemented by my excellent listening skills in the absence of any prejudice. As a result, the delivered care was not only suitable for the case but also allowed promoting their capability to make rational decisions and resolve their issues without help in the future.
Weaknesses
In addition to the identified strengths, particular weaknesses were demonstrated when working with the clients. For example, when initially discussing the issues, I struggled with being more active than required, and this approach did not let the couple gain independence in solving problems from the very beginning. My intention to present a variety of methods instead of making them think of improvements was inappropriate, but I managed to timely readjust my actions. Moreover, this challenge was accompanied by difficulties in recognizing that my preferences of how to deal with the emerging situations might not be shared by those affected by these adversities.
Opportunities for Growth
The analysis of strengths and weaknesses performed above shows that my further actions as a professional should be guided by opportunities for growth. They include the need for developing empathy to timely detect varying attitudes towards life circumstances shown by the patients and highlighted by me. Another measure contributing to my future success as a healthcare specialist is learning about techniques, allowing to increase comfort levels of the clients in order to guarantee their active participation. In this way, the combination of an empathetic approach and the focus on convenience would be beneficial for the quality of rendered services.
Confidence Level
The final aspect connected to the provision of care to drug addicts critical for its appropriateness to their needs is my confidence level. On a scale of one to ten, it is somewhere around six, which means that the situation is not critical but still implies the necessity to make improvements in this area. According to Makarem et al. (2019), this indicator positively correlates with the creation of a supportive environment vital for positive outcomes of treatment. Meanwhile, when it is relatively low, it implies that one cannot successfully use the available knowledge in practice. Such professionals might struggle to apply different techniques to varying settings, including individual and group work, and risk to adhere to standards that do not ensure any real advantages.
Conclusion
To summarize, the assessment shows that I can rely on my ability to select appropriate models and be attentive to people’s needs, whereas empathy and flexibility are not among the skills I possess. From this perspective, the opportunities for growth include eliminating the accompanying risks while learning more about corresponding methods for this purpose. Moreover, the confidence level should be increased for providing better assistance for individuals, and this task can ensure the convenience of suggestions.
