Long-Term Effects on Patients Using PPIs

The long-term incorporation of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) can possess an extremely harmful reaction to the patient’s health state. For example, according to Koyyada (2021), “the concomitant use of PPIs with antiplatelet drugs like clopidogrel can impose the patients to major adverse cardiac events.” (p. 13). Therefore, one should state that the PPI method assumes many potential challenges and risks when used without appropriate attention and exploration. It is vital to highlight that the new data regarding the use of PPI states that 50% of patients use it without particular symptoms (Ahmed & Clarke, 2023). Therefore, it is crucial to deliver the message of appropriate and reasonable implementation of this approach.

Risk of Death of PPI Patient’s Group and H2 Blockers Group

While taking into account the above-mentioned adverse outcomes from the long-term application of PPIs, it is important to underline the significant risks for lethal results. In this term, one should explore the possible alternatives and understand their advantages. In particular, comparing the PPI patients’ group with the H2 blockers group will be helpful.

In their article, the authors Samreen et al. (2019) state the experiment that they conducted while treating the patient. The one who was receiving the PPI treatment has been changed to be treated with H2 blockers. The results were positive, and H2 helped decrease platelet count and reduce persistent epigastric pain (Samreen et al., 2019). Moreover, further investigations concluded that platelet count continued to decrease (Samreen et al., 2019). Consequently, because of the specific advantages, the H2 blockers patients’ group has better chances to avoid lethal outcomes.
