Marine Corps Personnel and Administrative Chief Jobs

SWOT

Strengths Weaknesses
I believe I have significant strengths in terms of fulfilling responsibilities required for this position. First, I have administrative experience, working directly for a high-ranking colonel. My experience and seniority have placed me in a position of managing of personnel and supervisory roles which will allow establish, direct, and supervise administrative functions in an office where I am assigned. My experience has also allowed me to obtain proficiency in vital responsibilities in the administrative position including flow of paperwork and supervising the maintenance and distributions of directives and communications. I am a highly disciplined and responsible individual, with a priority to personal and professional organizational skills and planning. The rapid pace and multifactorial consideration of an administrative chief position are an environment where I most thrive. The position requires significant computer proficiency and knowledge regarding database software packages such as the Marine Corps Total Force System (MCTFS). I have little to no experience with these systems and although I am a confident computer user, a big weakness is that complex programming takes me some time to learn. The technical proficiency of the job is the most concerning weakness as I am slow in adopting new technologies in both my everyday life and routine responsibilities.
Opportunities Threats
This position presents significant opportunities for my professional growth. It is inherently challenging and potentially far ahead in promotion than most people my age and experience would have. However, having the basis of the majority of necessary skills, it will be a new way for me to apply myself. Particularly, the position will provide significant leadership opportunities as well as a comprehensive integration and understanding of the various administrative procedures and databases, which I can use not only in this position but further professional growth. I prefer to see myself as a candidate that would not present threats to the employer or position requirements. I believe the biggest threat to my qualifications for this position is that I have not yet completed the necessary Personnel Administration Course that is viable for the promotion. There are also some external circumstances to consider, such as I do not have the flexibility to currently relocate, pending my focus on completing a bachelor’s degree. This position is important and will likely have strong competition in which I will be the ‘underdog’ given my official qualifications.

Summary

Despite the position being ahead of some of my qualifications, I believe that I am the best candidate because I offer a unique mix of experience in a similar type of work combined with my strive for performance and innovation as a young professional. The combined strengths which highlight my leadership qualities, discipline and organization, and awareness of the processes necessary to facilitate and manage such a high-responsibility administrative function are only emphasized by the multiple opportunities for growth and development I have in the field and branch of service. While there are some concerns and potential barriers, I believe that the strengths outweigh these, and I am consistently striving to improve on areas of weakness. Undoubtedly the position will be a challenge, but I am willing to meet it with the wide array of skills in administration that I already possess alongside the dedication and discipline I display both personally and professionally.
