Microbial Growth and Aseptic Technique

Microbial Growth

Microbial growth is promoted by various conditions, and the most significant three factors include pH, temperature, and oxygen. According to specialists, their combination can determine the accompanying risks on a case-by-case basis and, therefore, requires consideration from the perspective of competition among microbes (Bruslind, 2021). Thus, pH, which is “the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution, expressed in molarity,” is critical as its levels correlate with abnormal activity (Bruslind, 2021). Depending on this indicator, the presence of neutrophils, acidophiles, or alkaliphiles can be established (Bruslind, 2021). In turn, the temperature is essential for predicting the environment favorable for microbes because its optimal range determines the emergence of various types of bacteria (Bruslind, 2021). They include psychrophiles, mesophiles, thermophiles, or, in other words, elements surviving in cold, medium, and hot settings (Bruslind, 2021). As for oxygen, its concentration reflects the presence of microbes. They are anaerobes, which do not need this substance, and microaerophiles, requiring it for growth (Bruslind, 2021). The discussed factors can effectively determine the probability of one or another process related to bacteria.

Aseptic Technique

The so-called aseptic techniques are an essential aspect of healthcare and, more specifically, microbiology in guaranteeing patients’ safety in terms of microbial growth. They are presented with a combination of evidence-based practices to eliminate the accompanying risks (WebMD Editorial Contributors, 2021). In this case, the connection between the provision of medical services in general and microbiological research, particularly, is in the correlation of these areas and their elements. Thus, the consideration of physical barriers is guided by the patterns of germ distribution in facilities, and sterility as one of the main conditions of positive outcomes of interventions depends on this factor (WebMD Editorial Contributors, 2021). In addition, the link can be confirmed by the environmental data stemming from microbiology and its practical implications for specialists in clinics (WebMD Editorial Contributors, 2021). Therefore, the aseptic technique is crucial for patient results while being connected to germs and their specificities.
