Poetry is a universal language that has always been used by people to express their feelings and emotions. Such concepts as love, devotion, and passion have also been important for all history of humanity. For this reason, regardless of the epoch and time, some similar motifs can be found both in old and new texts. For instance, the classic Shakespeare’s poem My Mistress’ Eyes are Nothing Like the Sun can be compared to a modern song by Weezer No One Else. The lines state that the main heroes are not perfect, and they have peculiarities that might seem unattractive to other people. Shakespeare says, “My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun; / Coral is far redder than her lips’ red”, while Weezer states, “My girl’s got a big mouth / With which she blabbers a lot”. These stanzas show that both girls are not ideal; however, these features make them unique, and they are still attractive to the authors. In such a way, regardless of several centuries separating these two texts, the ideas of love and the way to express them remain similar, and the modern songs have motifs resembling the classic ones.
