Issue Analysis
Nurse burnout is a complex problem that is typical of many modern workplaces. One of the leading reasons is the conditions in which these healthcare professionals work. The main predictors of burnout are “high workload, value incongruence, low control over the job, low decision latitude, poor social climate/social support, and low rewards” (Dall’Ora et al., 2020, p. 1). Due to these circumstances, nurses face psychological and physical problems that have a direct impact on the results and productivity of their work.
Within the research discipline, there is a debate about the causes of burnout among nurses. The most prominent point of view is the unfavorable workplace. It refers to the immediate conditions of work, its quantity, and compliance with requirements (Shah et al., 2021).
At the same time, insufficient effective leadership and a lack of employer support are also highlighted. Others argue that the leading causes of burnout are limited resources and insufficient training (Sullivan et al., 2022). All these opinions indicate the critical need to solve this problem, as it can only expand in scope if left unresolved.
Based on the highlighted research question and the analysis of the literature, improving the workplace and environment will be most effective. This kind of intervention involves the proper distribution of work among nurses, providing the necessary support and training, and establishing communication and partnership. In addition, encouraging approaches to enhance nurses’ resilience will be valuable (Carthon et al., 2021). It will be most fair, as it includes a comprehensive approach to individuals’ psychological and physical well-being. To change the environment, it is necessary to employ strategies that involve medical organizations, employees, the community, and stakeholders. The main problem may be a lack of resilience to change, as initiatives will require extensive transformations.
Audience Analysis
The most important stakeholders, in terms of their legitimacy, power, and urgency, include several agents. Among them, administrators and healthcare policymakers stand out and can make a significant contribution to addressing nurse burnout. Demographic indicators such as gender, age, and race/ethnicity can vary significantly. Occupation and location are the responsibility of stakeholders.
At the moment, this audience strongly recognizes the need to address the issue, which is an advantage, as administrators and healthcare policymakers have significant stakes and expertise in this area (Schlak et al., 2022). In other words, these stakeholders share my point of view, which will positively influence the audience’s persuasion. This common ground will help to increase the efficiency of using rhetorical appeals and needs-based appeals to draw attention to the problem.
Genre Analysis
One of the primary determinations I have made regarding obligatory, common, and rare genre moves is to follow a clear structure and sequence. Hence, in this case, formatting and organizing information based on the main and supporting zones for each will be most effective. In addition, diction, tone, and voice play a role in addressing the emotional and logical components of speech to attract the audience’s attention. To ensure credibility and trust, it is necessary to use sources and evidence based on scientific research. This aspect will provide an opportunity to connect with the audience, relying on the speaker’s professionalism and knowledge, thereby increasing the persuasiveness of the main message.
I intend to adhere to specific mandatory structural, language, and reference conventions when communicating with the audience. In other words, it is necessary to pay special attention to maintaining professionalism without going beyond the audience’s knowledge. This aspect will enable easier perception and the ability to provide new knowledge to individuals. It is also important to structure the narrative clearly, ensuring that each point the author makes is supported by scientific evidence to ensure credibility.
Another modification is to pay attention to the reference for the most relevant information for the audience. Within the framework of the proposed topic, this aspect is quite easy to achieve since the issue concerns a large part of society and will provide an opportunity to achieve exigence. Regarding non-obligatory structure, language, and reference conventions, I intend to use direct references to the audience’s experience to strengthen their involvement in the topic.
Reflection
To identify the appropriate stakeholder audience, I studied online sources that examined the problem of nurse burnout and identified the parties involved. I learned that to convince this audience, it is necessary to rely on factual information that appeals to all three appeals: pathos, ethos, and logos. This will provide an opportunity to demonstrate the scope of the problem and to shape the argument in the advocacy letter.
Genre analysis gave me a better understanding of the importance of adhering to standard conventions. This helps highlight the most essential parts of the information and how best to present it to convince and connect with the audience. Moreover, I realized the genre’s dynamism, as it provides an opportunity to adapt it to the individuals who will receive the knowledge. Thus, the use of audience- and genre-aware moves positively affects adherence to the ethics of writing criterion. This is because the audience’s preferences and interests are taken into account, and evidence is properly attributed. It also creates trust and credibility, which limits bias.
