Introduction
Nursing is a dynamic profession that demands a distinctive approach to delivering high-quality care. The personal qualities of a person and their motivation play a significant role, as they can directly affect how a nurse treats clients. The professional values of employees must be justified and clearly expressed for nursing education to be as successful as possible (Sorenson et al., 2020). In this regard, analysis of the student’s aspirations and abilities is an important aspect that can contribute to understanding the meaning of the profession in the context of evidence-based practice.
Provider of Care and Manager of Care Roles
Evidence-based practice, research, and theory are directly related to the role of the provider of care in ensuring proper care for patients. Care providers must apply research and theoretical knowledge to their practice to select the highest quality and most effective approach to care for each patient. Thus, in evidence-based practice, conducting and studying research are integral parts of the profession, as they require direct participation in the care process. At the same time, the theoretical basis is also connected to this process, as it serves as the foundation that ensures the conduct of reliable research (Sorenson et al., 2020). Theory is also a significant element in guiding practice for novice nurses, as it can direct their actions in the right direction.
From the perspective of care managers, the elements discussed play an essential role, just as the role of evidence-based practice management, on which orders are based, also plays a significant role. Research and theory are among the primary sources of knowledge on which the guidance provided by care managers is based (Sorenson et al., 2020). Conducting research is an integral aspect of a care manager’s job, as it can help identify ways to expedite patients’ recovery (Fain, 2021). Thus, without conducting detailed research with a theoretical component, it would not be possible to provide competent guidance.
Evidence-Based Practice and Caring
The professional value of caring is fundamental to the work of nurses and the performance of their duties. This must include compassion, empathy, and a commitment to the well-being of patients. The use of evidence-based practice may be related to the concern that nurses become more effective in providing care to patients as they gain experience and expertise.
For example, a nurse may use compassionate pain management to improve a patient’s condition. However, this approach requires studying evidence-based practice to understand which approach is best to use and what tools may be needed for this purpose. Another example is how I used evidence-based practice to implement patient-centered communication. To do this, I needed to spend some time communicating with other doctors and patients to understand better what approach should be used in certain instances.
Reasons for BSN
The decision to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) took me a considerable amount of time. Still, once I realized my desire for it, I was able to identify the primary reasons. First, the BSN is a comprehensive academic program that can help me gain advanced knowledge and skills in the field of nursing. This education is crucial for getting started in practical work and gaining knowledge of conducting research.
Secondly, the decision was made because the BSN can provide opportunities for further career growth in the nursing field. Receiving higher education gives me the right to occupy leadership positions and organize the care process, which has always been fascinating to me. Studying in this program helps me develop critical thinking skills and teaches me the necessary knowledge to conduct research in the medical sector in the future.
Professional Values and Reasons for BSN
The reasons I want to pursue a BSN align with the professional values of caring, altruism, integrity, Human Dignity, autonomy, and social justice. This is because a BSN demonstrates knowledge gained that can help provide better care and promote social justice. Improving the quality of care is fundamental to nursing; therefore, these concepts are closely related, and obtaining a BSN is necessary. In addition, this aligns with altruism, as a nurse, I devote my time and attention to others who need it. The value of autonomy and Human Dignity is achieved because, with a higher education diploma, I will be able to develop my career and act more freely in the future. Honesty aligns with my educational goals, as I must understand why I am pursuing a career in nursing and what I aim to achieve.
Conclusion
Sound nursing practice is of great importance to improve the care of people in this area. To do this, it is necessary to develop aspects such as professional values, as they can help guide a specialist in the direction they have chosen. For me, these values became decisive in pursuing a BSN because they will provide me with the necessary knowledge that I can apply in my practice and use to make patients’ lives more convenient. In addition, research and theoretical aspects are crucial for introducing innovations in nursing and optimizing the field’s work.
