Introduction
Witches are popular creatures from nay legends and histories retrieved from the sixteenth century. There is no clear proof that females could be witches because of their specific powers that could transform people into other living being or cast a curse. However, their actions, like cannibalism, sabbaths, and close connection with the Devil, became the main indicators in the process of witch recognition and judgment.
Cannibalism and Witches
Cannibalism became one of the massive acts in the sixteenth century, and people blamed people with different untypical abilities for the rising epidemics. In my perception, witches had only the specific power of bewitching and cursing. However, Roper stated that “originally, cannibalism was linked with heresy, but later this charge became an established part of the repertoire of witches” (72). The author explained that witches always aimed to harm people, and this theory has been preserved until now. Nevertheless, witches’ confessions are never sincere and confuse others to keep their activities secret.
Sex with the Devil
It has always been believed that witches cooperate with the Devil, and their connection causes many problems worldwide. Some people could think that the desire to have sex with the Devil is not controlled because of the creature’s power. However, witches could not lose their minds when they were enchanted by the Devil (Roper 82). Nowadays, people continue to assume that females want to marry the Devil for power. However, in reality, the creature was forcing women to have sex with him by giving smooth promises and love in the first stages of the relationship.
Sabbaths
The life of witches stayed flourished over time because of the close connection with the Devil and intellect. Some people think that the power of witches is not real and that they are popular only for their dissolute lifestyle (Roper 104). Some of the activities stay imagined, and this idea takes place in the modern world. However, Protestants formed their perception of the witches’ lives, describing the nature of pleasure, which was not available to working Christians.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the idea of witches has not changed significantly since the sixteenth century, but some factors have lost their reality over time, and people these days understand the activities of these creatures from a modern perspective. It is important to understand that there are different visions and ideas regarding the witches to ensure that the most realistic picture of the legend is created in human minds.
