The hypothesis investigated by Jeroen et al. (2018) was linked to the relationship between personality traits and daily experiences of middle-aged mothers. Therefore, the idea that the researchers decided to test was that different daily experiences could have an impact on a person’s personality traits. The research completed by Jeroen et al. (2018) showed that different life events could have an extensive impact on one’s personality changes. This is also true under the condition where every potential psychological factor would be perceived as a unique mediator of support and positive affect. The researchers concluded that emotional stability and extraversion also make up for two of the most important qualities in middle-aged mothers whose daily experiences could have a crucial impact on their own lives. Nevertheless, negative daily experiences might have a much worse impact on the lives of middle-aged mothers who are recurrently involved in relationship conflicts.
A total of 483 middle-aged mothers participated in Jeroen et al.’s (2018) research to validate the hypothesis regarding the psychosocial development of individuals. Owing to the fact that the research featured a longitudinal design, study participants had to go through six personality trait measurements over the course of six years. The data that the researchers collected allowed them to conclude that the daily experiences of middle-aged mothers were hardly associated with the Big Five personality traits and rank-order modifications. Also, Jeroen et al. (2018) found that personality traits could not be utilized to predict any significant rank-order transformations at all. The idea was that the Big Five traits should be linked to daily positive interactions and supportive relationships in order to contribute to adequate rank-order changes. Overall, the positive alterations associated with middle-aged mothers’ Big Five traits were found overlapping their negative counterparts. The conclusion here is that any potential changes in personality traits should be generated with the help of positive experiences if middle-aged mothers expect to improve their condition and retain inspiring relationships with others.
