Philosophy of Care as a Nurse

For many people, nursing is a field that represents the very essence of caring and compassion. In such a challenging profession, it is vital to have empathy, and a desire to help those who cannot take care of themselves. However, nursing philosophy is much more complicated than this; it includes a set of certain principles, knowledge, and ideas.

My philosophy of nursing is deeply connected to my belief that people should treat each other as individuals with various needs, even though sometimes it cannot be easy. That is why competent health professionals should remember to handle their patients in the same way nurses would handle their family and friends. Patients are the ones who are put in a vulnerable position, so they have to put their trust into nurses. Therefore, it is essential to value that trust and make patients feel safe and cared for.

Moreover, a healthcare field is dynamic and requires constant engagement and growth, both professional and personal. Since nursing is tied to science and medical knowledge, it is vital to stay updated on training and to be aware of current clinical practices. It will take some time of research and education that will seem never-ending, but in the long run, that knowledge base will shape me into a competent specialist who can provide excellent care.

The discussion on the philosophy of care once again reminded me of goals that got me striving in this profession. The attentiveness to my patients’ condition, respect for their values, and a genuine desire to self-develop as a specialist are critical points to my nursing philosophy.
