Qualities of a Good Leader

Leadership has become an essential topic for discussion and research in the era of globalization and society’s economic transformation. Some scholars equate leadership with management, others oppose these two concepts. They are undoubtedly connected; however, there are evident differences between them. Moreover, various qualities of a good leader are mentioned in different studies; thus, defining three main traits is challenging. Further, such features as confidence, integrity, and innovation will be discussed as essential parts of successful leadership and how these are opposed to management qualities.

Firstly, good leaders should be self-confident and show this confidence to their team members. According to Pathak (2020), they have high self-esteem, which helps them take risks, accomplish their ambitions, ask team members for their opinion, and look for potential. In contrast, management aims at controlling the situation and depending on their authority. Being a good leader means being enthusiastic about projects and take full responsibility for success and failures.

Secondly, one of the core values has become integrity and honesty, as a good leader should build and sustain trust with both employees and stakeholders. They make decisions based on ethics and morality; they keep their promises and inspire others to do the same. On the other hand, management tends to inspire fear and say commands to their workers. Thus, a good leader analyses the situation, discusses it with other team members and develops a plan based on its values.

Finally, innovation is an essential trait of a good leader because it helps to be flexible, create new methods, and be open to new ideas. As Pathak states (2020), good leaders are active listeners, and this quality is significant for seeking creativity. By contrast, management usually follows the beaten path, uses well-proven methods, and is indifferent to others’ opinions. As a result, to have good leadership in the company means to have prospects for successful growth and goal achievement.

To conclude, good leaders focus on employees’ development, their initiatives, and supporting innovative ideas. They play the role of mentors who inspire others and demonstrate confidence in the chosen thread. Finally, they contribute much effort in projects and set signs on company and workers’ accomplishment and success. It is challenging to possess all qualities of a good leader, but personal growth has always been crucial for fruitful development.
