Introduction
Race has always been a matter of discussion at different times. People of various appearances and nationalities went through numerous stages of racial inequality in societies. Present and future generations must understand the significance of a tolerant environment for all people.
Such a prominent author as W. E. B. Du Bois describes this problem in his work The Souls of Black Folk (Du Bois, 2021). Du Bois focuses on a color-based issue of race that motivated Black people to confront the harsh consequences of racial discrimination and strive for a better life.
The Meaning of Emancipation to African Americans
The book involves the theme of Blacks in the U.S., who faced multiple hate and unfair perceptions from Whites. In the first chapters, Du Bois described African Americans’ history and highlighted the “Emancipation and what it meant to them” (Du Bois, 2021). The main problem of the twentieth century is the color-based treatment of humans (Du Bois, 2021). Although Black people suffered actively growing racism, they possessed unspoiled souls and were ready to fight for their rights and freedom (Du Bois, 2021). These people had to confront such outcomes of discrimination as mental and physical abuse.
The Level of Freedom Experienced by African Americans
“The freedman has not yet found in freedom his promised land,” which is still relevant in modern American society, where Blacks face discrimination in different spheres. For instance, such state civil forces as police cultivate racial inequality towards African Americans. The main driver for racial conflict in American society at the end of the twentieth century was oppressive relationships between Black and White people (Du Bois, 2021). Consequently, the author tries to inform that such relationships harmed both sides of the conflict, where Whites mortified their souls to some extent.
Conclusion
The U.S. is where different races find their home, meaning they all must live peacefully. Regarding the history of the past described in the work of Du Bois, racial discrimination prevailed in American society in the twentieth century. The current generation still can witness this history’s consequences, although humanity has become more tolerant toward Blacks. Du Bois’ book is concentrated on the problem of color and its negative consequences for surrounding people. Conclusively, racial groups have always been prone to fight for their freedom in society despite the struggles they experience.
