Reviewing the Marriott Hotels and Salvation Army Websites: Design and User Experience

Reviewing Marriot Hotels Website

If I were the CEO of Marriott Hotels, I would not be impressed by the company’s current website. The company’s vision, as stated on the first screen of the site, is “wonderful hospitality, always” (Marriott Hotels, 2023). However, the design and layout of the page are pretty basic and do not serve to distinguish Marriott from other hotel chains. The website’s use of company colors and somewhat user-friendly navigation are positive aspects, allowing visitors to find information about the services and amenities offered. The website can be made more accessible and interactive to attract potential customers.

Nevertheless, the overview of the website shows that future clients can be attracted by the information provided. Specifically, this concerns the offered details on free membership, services provided, and locations. However, this could be improved by adding information about special offers on the first screen.

Potential employees could be interested in joining the Marriott Hotels family based on information given on a page dedicated to careers. In particular, the experiences and stories of past and current employees can help individuals gain a more comprehensive idea of what working in Marriott Hotels would be like. Although the website is functional, it could be more visually appealing.

Reviewing the Salvation Army Website

The Salvation Army US website is reasonably well-designed, laid out, and visually attractive. If I were the CEO of the Salvation Army, I would be satisfied with the organization’s website. The website is easy to navigate and contains the information visitors may want about the Salvation Army, its goals and objectives, and how they can help achieve them (The Salvation Army, 2023). It is interactive and engaging, with animations pointing visitors to various sections and articles on the website. However, the website is not accessible for users with different impairments; in particular, keyboard accessibility is poor.

Nonetheless, the website can attract potential employees and future clients. Specifically, it has a dedicated page for employment opportunities, highlighting existing vacancies by region and specialization (The Salvation Army, 2023). It can be argued that clients and volunteers of the Salvation Army are attracted by the thorough description of different opportunities for helping and the connection with local organizations. Focusing on local needs is particularly important, as most potential volunteers concentrate on helping locally.
