While thinking about the justifications for my selection, change is what comes first to mind. I do not fear change, and with this attribute, my survival in a challenging situation is guaranteed. I feel challenged, and I am up for it because tests pave the way for new experiences. This feeling is triggered by the social values that shaped my childhood, such as our cultural practices and school policies. Social constructs shape interactions either positively or negatively because they determine the norms created. For instance, there is no room for weakness or defeat in my community because it is survival for the fittest, whereby an individual has to pass the life test or die in the process.
My learning experience has been graced by trials with two options whereby an individual studies hard and excels or loses focus and is defeated. Therefore, people had to strive beyond their comfort zones to excel in everything they were assigned. These two systems have erased defeat and fear from my mind backing my assurance to take this challenge. These experiences have strengthened my courage and the willpower to complete my assigned duties without procrastination or fear of defeat, justifying the reason I have been chosen for this task.
Material Culture
Material culture items I would carry to the camp include my family photographs and our traditional candy. Inclusivity is developed by appreciating diversity, and therefore, the pictures will depict my culture to the people so that they can also discover our unique traits. The photographs will not be used for ethnocentrism purposes, but rather, it will be to appreciate diversity. This will be done by highlighting and acknowledging the authenticity and beauty of the different cultures, religions, and ideas to create a successful community.
Various things and situations unite people, including religion, food art, politics, and art. Food is a unique item that connects people and can create an interaction even when there are barriers such as communication. For instance, it is a kind gesture for someone to offer another some drinking water when the weather is hot. The candy will act as connecting factor whereby I will share with some of the people willing to try as a kind gesture to pave the way for interaction.
Non-material culture Level
Diversity means different ethnic, religious, sexual orientations and philosophies, and therefore, communication among the people will be the most significant barrier. Cultural diversity limits communication because individuals from different cultures or ethnic groups have different perceptions, languages, signs, and symbols. Words, gestures, and attitudes have contrasting definitions in different cultures. Additionally, culture influences preconceptions, ethnocentrism, morals, and opinions, impacting how people perceive things and react to specific occurrences. Appreciation of diversity is my point of focus in making changes for this new colony. Therefore, I will champion the adoption of some pillars of inclusion that include access and attitude. In attitude, members will be encouraged to embrace inclusion by respecting the different cultures present. Similarly, attitude will be addressed by creating an environment of acceptance and unity for better engagements.
Thinking Ahead
Time is an excellent factor in the resocialization process because people become closer, more engaging, and comfortable around each other with time. After a while in the colony, people began assimilating more convenient routines, lifestyles, and norms suited to the situation. As a result, relations and bonds were created, enhancing the resocialization process because connected individuals would engage in similar activities, which became a norm with time. The major setback in resocialization is cultural rigidity and negative attitude, whereby members are resistant to change or experience new things.
