Starting a Business: Opening a Gym

Starting a business always requires some preparation, particularly in regards to choosing a managing strategy. Additionally, it is essential to consider the clientele, the location, and the services that will be provided there. For instance, I have decided to open a gym in the neighborhood. The purpose of this paper is to outline how my business will operate and how I can ensure its profit.

The Clientele, Location, and Offered Services

I will open a gym in a neighborhood where most of the residents are families. Therefore, the clientele will consist mostly of middle-aged parents who wish to get in better shape and teenagers who are interested in fun exercises. Considering who the customers will be, it is essential to plan for low-intensity classes where people can follow a teacher as that can attract both adults and younger individuals. Additionally, it would be reasonable to employ a couple of personal trainers who can work with people that are interested in drastically improving their health. Otherwise, the gym should have some equipment where individuals can workout on their own.

The Management Strategy

In order to run my business, I will need to use the planning and organizing functions as the main goal is to create a space where people will want to go to exercise. Ideally, I would like to hire like-minded individuals who would negate the need for extensive leading and controlling of the workers. Considering that the gym will not be part of a chain, I propose two levels of management with a top manager who oversees everything and first-level managers that will “interact with other employees on a daily basis” (Simmering). The people occupying these positions need to be interested in business and have good people skills (Heinz). Concerning the different management, the scientific and systems ones can help minimize the expenses and maximize the profit. The behavior approach can be used to keep the trainers happy so that they can provide the customers with a great experience.

Conclusion

In this paper, I have outlined the strategies that will go into starting a business. As I considered the location and clientele, I was able to choose managerial approaches that can enhance the experience people will have at my gym. Overall, it is essential to focus on providing the client with a good experience, so most of the strategies should work towards achieving this goal.
