Supervisory Techniques and Challenges in Kung Fu Panda Production

Supervisors

Kung Fu Panda is one of the most popular family animated films, comprising different parts with unique stories and humorous moments. This TV show employs diverse supervisory techniques, which cannot be compared to those found in other films produced by Paramount Pictures. According to Taufiqurokhman et al. (2019), the most crucial supervision is licensing all film parts. Ensuring the film will be published without violence or human rights violations is essential. Therefore, I believe that the most crucial technique is music with an Asian motif, which helps attract a more diverse audience.

Effective and Ineffective Supervisory Techniques

The authors of the animated film employed a successful communication technique to convey the story to the viewers, which influenced the actions depicted throughout the cartoon. The narrative stayed clear and approachable with a sense of humor. For example, the film shows that it is essential for pandas to finish their meals before fighting, and the audience of every age can find specific humor in this scene.

Additionally, the time-management supervision technique was implemented successfully, as this animated film should not bother small children and should not require a significant amount of time from adults. The TV show has almost no intriguing moments, and the story moves quickly. However, at the beginning, when the authors explain the legend in 2D format, many viewers may need clarification due to the complex vocabulary and extensive information. For example, one of the heroes says, “I see you like to chew. Maybe you should chew on my fist,” which may not be clear to the majority of the audience (Osborne & Stevenson, 2008). Therefore, the critical thinking technique could not be successful in a TV show.

What a Supervisor Could Do Differently

To make the critical thinking technique effective and ensure that the audience does not become tired or confused, the authors and the animation department could begin the film with 3D scenes. Even though 2d animation became a unique part of the film, some people might believe this is an old-fashioned way of cartoon representation. However, the film succeeded because the rest of the content stayed in the 3D format, and viewers did not lose attention.

The scene in which the duck brings the message from Master Shifu is dark, and the color supervision technique is not appropriately followed in this case (Osborne & Stevenson, 2008). As an author, I would include more color and avoid only red and black. Even though this scene is meant to be terrifying and unattractive, the cartoon should stay oriented towards the young audience to ensure they are not traumatized.

Kung Fu Panda will go out of date by 2022 and will not be shown in cinemas today. However, many prefer to watch it again on platforms like Netflix or Apple TV. The presence of color and light may be sufficient while watching the cartoon on a big screen, but on laptops and phones, the company of light is insignificant, and some moments cannot be clearly recognized. If this TV show were produced in 2022, it would be more beneficial to increase the number of different colors in the scene of the mail delivery to ensure precise delivery of information. Minor problems can significantly alter the overall appearance of the film and make it more successful than others in a similar genre.

Impact of High- and Low-Stress Environments on Supervisory Techniques

During the film’s production, many related departments experience pressure as they have specific deadlines and regulations to follow. The rules provided by directors may alter the effectiveness of supervisory techniques and render them less beneficial. In Hollywood films and serials, producers are required to create a mind game to engage viewers and capture their attention (Elsaesser, 2021). This regulation may require clarification for authors and scriptwriters, potentially reducing the effectiveness of critical thinking supervision. The problem of creativity, in this case, builds a highly stressful environment specifically for those who develop the film and mix drama with humorous scenes.

Comparing a high-stress and low-stress environment reveals that teamwork reduces the pressure on every worker involved in film development and script writing. A good supervisor incorporates time management and problem-solving skills, which are efficient when people divide their work and have the opportunity to share their ideas with another group member. Paramount Pictures actively uses the group work strategy to allow employees to work in a low-stress environment (Paramount). Teamwork has played a significant role in producing the Kung Fu Panda animated film, as it encompasses diverse events that could not have been written and produced by one person. The level of creativity is high, and the constant generation of new and unique ideas by group members helped decrease general stress and cope with existing problems in supervisory techniques.

Personal Relation to Supervisory Traits

The TV show’s production requires increased communication, which can supervise the project from start to finish. Therefore, maintaining open and confident communication with coworkers is essential. I have always been talkative and can relate communication to the supervisory trait, which helps me professionally. Expressing emotions correctly is essential to supporting a relatively high level of relationships. Moreover, knowing how to structure sentences correctly is crucial to being understood and listened to.

I have developed this skill by reading books of different genres. Fiction helped me learn how to structure sentences correctly and avoid unnecessary information, while scientific literature provided me with unique knowledge to stay interested in the conversation. Combining both types of literature has positively influenced my passion for working in the film industry. It is essential to remain straightforward and use synonyms effectively when producing scripts. While working in a team, I can easily develop new ideas and make them clear and understandable to everyone.

My passion for watching films and serials supports my ability to communicate openly and correctly. I usually pay attention to the sentence structure when heroes communicate to find standard techniques used in many successful shows. By paying attention to subtle communication methods, such as tone of voice and turns, I enhanced my professional skills and continued to grow my knowledge of the communication supervision technique. These skills can help me avoid failure in my future career and work in large teams.

“Textbook” Technique Fail

The “textbook” technique typically outlines specific rules that should be followed during plan execution in various spheres. The filmmaking industry also proposes accurate information regarding the structure of work and the spread of responsibilities. However, the modern world does not operate within the confines of the book, and people cannot follow all the regulations to achieve their goals.

Sometimes, taking an unconventional approach that is not outlined in the rules might be more beneficial. Elsaesser (2021) stated that many Hollywood employees follow the flow and try to implement solutions only when problems occur. Therefore, the provided “textbook” rules become less effective for supervisory techniques such as communication or time management. Workers experience failure in their performance when they cannot go beyond their responsibilities.

The failure of the technique is evident in the animated film, where the producers attempted to incorporate the legend to ensure that every viewer understood the cartoon’s history. The film needs to stay logical and include a clear introduction. However, this “textbook” rule could not be applied well in Kung Fu Panda due to the extensive history of the main hero.

I watched this cartoon as a child and liked the film’s animation and general idea. Nevertheless, the main idea did not stay in my mind, and I had to watch this film again to refresh my memory. This problem occurred because of the “textbook” method, which requires including a lot of supervisory techniques and paying less attention to real-life problems during the process. By avoiding this technique, the group developing the cartoon could make a more successful work and increase the number of viewings.
