Introduction
Team characteristics are the traits and qualities that a particular team needs to enable them to work toward a common goal and achieve it. It helps in defining the objectives that the team needs to work towards. The team’s characteristics allow it to improve their performances since they can work together, leading to effectiveness. Therefore, for a team to be effective, they need some characteristics to achieve their effectiveness. The paper will analyze the characteristics that help a team achieve their goals and objectives effectively.
Communication
Communication is one of the team characteristics considered to be essential to team performance. In a team, communication should be open and honest to ensure better understanding in the group, which enables the firm’s stakeholders to solve conflicts. Lack of effective communication in a team may affect its overall production and performance since it affects its unity (Kalogiannidis, 2021). Communication also helps the team members share ideas and opinions that may be essential in their team-building.
Clear Leadership
Leadership in a team is crucial since it is the one that controls and gives direction to the team activities. Clear leadership is key to a team’s success since the leader motivates the team and acts as an example. When the team has someone to lead them, they can be more productive than when they work without a leader (Larson & DeChurch, 2020). However, a leader should act as a good example to the team and understand them to make it easy for them to copy the good deeds of their leader.
Defined Goals
For a team to be effective, even before starting their task, they should have a clear goal to work towards. The set goal should go in hand with the objectives of the organization. Additionally, a team finds it more effective and easier when they have a dream they want to achieve (Connelly et al., 2019). This can be achieved by setting up a work plan to make it easy to achieve the goal or by dividing labor among the team members.
Conflict Resolution
Conflict resolution is a team characteristic that plays a significant part in determining a team’s success. For a team to succeed, they should have effective methods to solve the problems that arise from them (Morrison-Smith & Ruiz, 2020). In any disagreement, the team members should solve the issue respectfully. Conflicts in a team should be used to improve their skills of effective decision-making and problem-solving strategies.
Conclusion
In conclusion, working as a team is crucial because it helps the members work more effectively. They share ideas and help others lacking the same ideas and skills. A team characteristic indicates sharing or responsibility, where different members have different roles. Team leaders should, therefore, act fairly in distributing the roles to the team and ensure that each team member has equal responsibility according to their skills.
