The Main Reason for Nursing Shortage

Nursing is a psychologically and physically demanding job, as professionals must provide supportive care regardless of personal well-being. Lack of nurses is a long-term nationwide and multifactorial problem. First of all, individuals suffer from irregular work schedules and workloads that lead to stress. It is a reason for burnout or dismissal, as the nurse is no longer able to provide quality services. The main reason for the shortage of specialists is stressful working conditions, which can be solved by mentoring and improving nurses’ pay and schedule.

The shortage of health professionals is a significant organizational challenge in health provision. Nurses suffer from challenging working conditions in which they are required to push their limits. Forced overtime and inadequate specialist-patient ratios have been noted to be the most common causes of competency decline (Son et al., 2019). It leads to impaired productivity or layoffs, in which the individual experiences physical and psychological exhaustion. Thus, the shortage of nurses is associated with irregular schedules and unfair pay.

The strategy for correcting the current problem with the medical staff involves the team’s internal atmosphere and the funding of departments. Above all, nursing combines personal benefits and contributions to the well-being of the community. The Bible reveals the dedication and volunteering of care providers as part of their commitment to the Christian model of caring (Rieg et al., 2018). However, every employee strives to receive decent wages and a supportive team. It was noted that the primary strategy for solving nursing turnover is a mentoring system in which decentralized leadership allows one to identify challenges in time and solve them collectively (Halter et al., 2017). Formally, a coach helps a person adapt to a new team, better understand responsibilities, and advises on the appropriateness of additional shifts or areas of responsibility. Thus, the problem of the shortage of nurses can be solved financially and interventionally.

The health crisis extends to the availability of a sufficient number of specialists in a single institutional unit. Nurses suffer from overwork and increased responsibility, resulting in shortages or layoffs. Mentoring and improved funding for departments will help minimize mental burnout as people are more motivated to solve problems on time. In this way, nurses will be more closely monitored, and potential difficulties with professional duties will be identified and eliminated.
