Naming allows people to execute their power and creates a social environment. For example, many people are anxious about the proliferation of neopronouns because it is a way for a person to take control of themselves and take it away from others (Green and Calafell 306). In addition, naming constructs the atmosphere and the environment for a relationship that can vary from being aggressive and highly competitive to loving and accepting. If you choose a name consciously, you can significantly influence the people and relationships in your life.
The name I have chosen to use for my close friends is Lafamilia because it generates warmth in the relationship and brings people together. Family is everything, especially through the tough times we experience, so I consider my small group of friends my family. The word “Lafamilia” sounds pleasant, cozy, and homely and, I believe, creates a trusting atmosphere and relaxing environment.
