The Relationship Between Gender Identity and Human Rights
The topic of ethics that will be addressed in this paper is discrimination and its impact on human rights. Discrimination remains an issue of concern, with people from some backgrounds and genders being mistreated for being different. UNICEF indicates that women have constantly faced discrimination as a result of gender inequality. Failure to address gender inequality hurts human rights by enhancing the likelihood of intra- and inter-state conflict, thus affecting peacefulness. This indicates that treating people equally can help to uphold respect for human rights.

The Loving v. Virginia Case
Cases of discrimination against women and people of color have become common, indicating a need to promote equality for all people. An example of people of color being treated differently is in Loving v. Virginia, 388 US 1. Loving had decided to marry a Negro woman who was against the laws of Virginia, where he resided.
The couple was sentenced to one year in jail before filing a motion to vacate their judgment. A decision was later made that it was not appropriate to deny a man his fundamental freedom because of racial classification. The decision made by the court violated Loving’s fundamental freedom.
“Out of Sight” by Rania Abouzeid
Abouzeid presents another example of how women’s rights are violated as a result of discrimination. The author indicates that a high number of women are subject to sexual violence, with many of them failing to report it because of the shame associated with such actions. Enhancing the equality of all people will ensure that women’s rights are respected.
“Making Love a Crime” by Amnesty International
People engaging in same-sex marriage have also faced discrimination for making a decision that many people consider inappropriate. This has seen people being harassed, marginalized, and attacked because of their sexual orientation (Amnesty International). Engaging in consensual same-sex behavior has been criminalized in various sub-Saharan African countries.
“Women With Guns” by Filkins
Filkins highlights the importance of treating all people equally in The New Yorker. The author shares an experience of female combat soldiers who could perform similar duties as men (Filkins). The source seeks to eliminate the perception that women are inferior and thus gain more respect for their rights.
