Introduction
Communication is essential to align interactions with individuals and share specific thoughts and ideas with them. However, the effectiveness and results of the process depend on the ability to consider the peculiarities of the target audience. The same idea applies to writing, as it is one of the forms of communication. The correct strategies aligned with the public, subject, and purpose help to inform others and guarantee they understand the message. Furthermore, ensuring that the written text is logically structured and does not contain any mistakes is essential, meaning revision is fundamental for writing.
Course Outcomes
Thus, comprehensive, clear, and logical writing requires specific skills and competencies. For this reason, the course ENG 122 English Composition II can be considered an essential step towards enhancing communication skills and using them in various situations. For instance, I learned that the choice of style and approach to presenting ideas depends on the audience and the central purpose. Moreover, drafting is critical to ensure that the final text has no flaws and that all ideas will be included. Additionally, the course made me understand that revision is a critical part of writing and should be given much attention.
Importance of Revision
In such a way, all final texts should be double-checked and revised. It will help to attain several important goals. First, revision promotes a better understanding of the paper and its logical organization. It means that an author acquires the chance to find and correct possible fallacies, which is essential for the ability to interact with the audience. Moreover, ensuring that the text does not contain grammar or spelling mistakes is essential, as they might impact the overall impression. It means that revision is critical for writing and communication.
Revision Approaches
The importance of this procedure is evidenced by numerous approaches to revision existing at the moment. For instance, one of the strategies implies printing out a hard copy to read and see mistakes. Nowadays, most papers are created using computers and applications such as MS Word. However, using a hard copy for revision might be practical as it implies another reading mechanism.
Another approach is to pause and read a copy out loud later. It will help to hear and correct the ideas and messages if they sound awkward. Finally, the highlighting method can be used to see the paragraph’s structure.
Moreover, the writing can be revised using the audience’s feedback. For me, other people’s opinions are critical as they show how the audience considers your text and whether it is clear to them. For instance, in the future, introverts might comprise a bigger part of my target audience as they prefer reading to acquire necessary information. It gives them the desired degree of independence, depth, and contemplation (Fonseca, 2021). Using print copies to revise the paper might be an appropriate choice, as it will help to find and correct logical and grammatical mistakes.
Conclusion
Altogether, the course is an essential step towards improving writing skills. It shows that drafting and revising texts are essential for communicating and sharing ideas with others. To connect to the audience, it is essential to ask questions about their peculiarities of perception and preferences regarding reading. This will help select the most effective strategies to share information and organize texts in a way that will promote better cooperation with potential interlocutors and minimize the risk of misunderstandings.
