Significance of Research
The need for nursing research is caused by the opportunity to obtain crucial knowledge that cannot be gathered during superficial studies. Moreover, this data can be practically implemented to improve healthcare services. Understanding the basic research principles is necessary for nurses to make vital results and to understand the possible further developments of the issue (American Association of Colleges of Nurses, 2008). This course is essential to complete because the information obtained will allow nurses to use evidence-based practices to improve healthcare aspects such as safety, collaboration, and patient care.
Quantitative Research
Quantitative research aims to gather a considerable amount of data from various samples. Its main advantage is obtaining different viewpoints and positions to create specific statistics related to the research. As one of the quantitative methods I have learned, it is important to mention the survey approach.
One crucial feature of this design is that it allows one to gather many opinions in the short term and with low spending. The significance of quantitative research should be highlighted in the stage of assessing information during evidence-based practices. For example, it can be applied to understand patients’ needs while providing the survey.
Qualitative Research
Qualitative research uses the opposite approach to quantitative research. It means that not the number but the attention to specific details and depth of the explorations are a priority. The sample studied is small, but it is discovered in detail. As one qualitative research design, one should mention the approach of researching various visual materials obtained as analysis from patients of other data. I understood this design through the need to find possible solutions for treatment while considering the patient’s analysis and biography. This type of research can solve complex problems requiring profound consideration of various factors and indicators.
Research Sampling
Sampling is an integral part of both qualitative and quantitative research. Its primary importance is in quantitative research. It is what object or subject the researcher aims to study. Among the sampling strategies, the most useful for me was purposive sampling because it allows one to select specific objects or people being studied based on particular criteria. It is crucial to obtain appropriate results for the study (QSEN Institute, 2020). I have learned that one can apply it in qualitative and quantitative research. Another sampling strategy I have discovered is stratified sampling, which assumes the division of objects being studied into specific categories, allowing us to assess them rationally.
Credible Nursing Profession
The research helps make nursing practice safe because of its ability to identify particular threats and issues in practice. This means nurses can mention problems during the working process and formulate practical methods to eliminate them. I believe the research can impact nursing practice by significantly improving the entire approach to healthcare. In other words, it will allow healthcare workers to provide more qualitative and rational patient care services. For creating an evidence-based nursing profession, research is essential in implementing particular resources and approaches that cannot be applied during theoretical learning.
Utilization
I plan to use the learning to improve my practice by implementing the abovementioned research types and different approaches. I plan to use qualitative and quantitative approaches to assess the patient’s needs to provide more professional and rational treatments. This course helped me understand the importance of evidence-based research and what improvements it can bring to patient care services. In addition, while completing the clarifying research worksheet activity, I learned how to gather data while purposive sampling among patients.
