Self-care is an evidence-based approach that health professionals should take seriously if they are to become successful care providers. The selected personal activity that results in relaxation and gratification is that of taking long walks. This initiative can promote stress reduction and uplift one’s spirits. Selection of the Caring Activity

The caring for self is an idea that has featured prominently in medical theories and literature. The current challenge of burnout in this profession is attributable to nursing shortage amidst the increasing number of citizens in need of personalized care. Unfortunately, many health institutions lack proper mechanisms for promoting work-life balance and taking good care of their employees (Ozan et al., 2015). This reality explains why I chose to take long walks. This activity is one of exercises that I usually undertake when I want to relax. The approach encourages me to connect with the nature, relax, and meditate. The exercise also maximizes oxygen supply to various body organs, thereby increasing alertness.

This caring activity is capable of delivering a wide range of self benefits. First, the recorded relaxation level will become a new opportunity for identifying some of the areas of strengths and weaknesses that could benefit from a superior nursing model. Second, the activity amounts to exercise and makes it easier for me to monitor my body mass index (BMI). The overall outcome is that I will remain physically fit and complete my personal and professional activities successfully. Third, the habit of self-care is relevant since it guides nurses to overcome the challenges associated with prolonged working hours, such as fatigue and anxiety. This achievement is in accordance with Dr. Jean Watson’s caritas of self trust and nursing personal growth, beliefs, and practices (Giovannoni, 2017).Such gains are, therefore, capable of empowering and guiding more professionals in nursing to achieve their overall aims much faster.

When I take good care of my body and brain, I find it easier to handle some of the problems that might emerge. The recorded level of relaxation is a new opportunity for me to handle stress, interact with my family members, and collaborate to achieve the intended goals. Sometimes I encourage my relatives to be part of such activities since they can eventually deliver meaningful results (Ozan et al., 2015). I believe that a happy family is an opportunity for me to complete my roles diligently and in a timely manner.

Finally, the selected relaxation activity is beneficial to my patients. For instance, the exercise uplifts my spirits and makes it easier for me to overcome stress. This gain means that I will become more energized and willing to take up additional nursing roles. Such a practice supports my philosophy by encouraging me to consider challenging environments and situations (Giovannoni, 2017). I find a new reason to interact with my patients effectively and provide personalized services. I have decided to be taking similar exercises at least four times a week. I am planning to create a schedule for such activities and make them part of my work-life balance.


The above documentation has outlined a project that is inspirational to me. The idea of engaging in prolonged walks for four days every week is evidence-based and capable of supporting my ambitions as a nurse. The exercise is also capable of supporting my family’s goals and eventually transforming my patients’ medical outcomes. The end result is that I will become a successful caregiver in my unit.
